Message from The Director

Dr. Y. V. Joshi

Greetings to all!
We are going through fast-changing and fascinating changes in technology. The technological advances have many good motives, but the core of it is help to the mankind. This tremendous growth has been made possible by the unending tireless efforts of countless technocrats along with many supporting disciplines.

Since its inception, Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli has been striving for achieving its target to inculcate good technical abilities in her students. Our faculty and supporting staff work hard in all-round development of students and all its stakeholders. It is dream of the founders and we continue to take every effort in that direction. The spirit that inspired Walchand family and other founders to start this institution more than six decades ago encourages us in everything we do — whether those efforts occur in the classroom, in a laboratory, in the library, or anywhere a student’s life is touched upon. In this, Walchand’s is recognized as one of the state’s leading institute, and has been awarded autonomous status.

After achieving this, we should ponder a little and think about the future. What will be our place in the Nation? What about the world? I firmly believe in untapped potentials of students, faculty and staff. What we have now can be greatly multiplied. It is like the iceberg in the deep ocean. We see only 5-10% of it, but 90-95% lies beneath the sea water! If we decide to utilize a few of our hidden and hibernated talents, we will be on a path where all the great universities and institutes have travelled to earn name and fame. I know from bottom of my heart that we can travel on the path. Despite our best efforts, some talents are left unexplored. But, as all leaders would put it, “Yes, we can!”

We at Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli strongly believe that collaboration across disciplines will be key to future advances, and multidisciplinary research and teaching are required. Development of networks amongst institutions and leading research organizations is one of the important activities in this direction. Increasing role of students in the key affairs of the institute will greatly enhance the efforts. In my logic, the students have energies that can be equated as,

where n = number of students and Si as individual energy. We should try to utilize these energy balls effectively.

Finally, I would like to assure you that together we can do seemingly impossible jobs. Do and let do!
