The Department of Information Technology got established in 2001 and is one of the youngest departments of WCE, Sangli. The department focuses on recent development in the area of Information Technology such as Internet Technology, Web Technology Mobile Technology, Theoretical Computer Science, Database Engineering, Software Engineering, Operating Systems. Syllabus of these courses is up-to-date and is in-line with the current trends of the Computer and IT Industry. Additional guidance is offered to students in specific areas in the field of Information Technology and Computer Science to enable the outgoing graduates to give more justice to the job assigned to them. The Department provides best laboratories/facilities and hands-on training to the Undergraduate students both in the conventional subject as also in the emerging fields of specialization.

The Department GOAL is to - promote excellence by encouraging Creativity and Critical thinking to stay ahead in the latest development in Information Technology.


The Department is backed by a number of well developed laboratories like -

  • Programming Lab
  • UG Project Lab
  • Unix Lab
  • Microprocessor Lab
  • PG Lab-I
  • PG Lab-II

The department is going to add "Big Data Analytics" and "Web Design/Web Service" Laboratories in near future.


In addition, the IT department manage both the WCE Data Center & Central Computing Facility (CCF) for state of the art computational facilities for the students practical & projects of other academic programmes.

IT Department has provided latest technologies and digital-infrastructure to the faculty for effective classroom teaching using:

  • Computer aided teaching (CAT) with hi-tech multi-media presentations,
  • Animations Tools for teaching abstract concepts,
  • Virtual labs as teaching aid for simulations and virtual instruments,
  • E-learning resources,
  • Digital Library Access via Intranet,
  • Use of Moodle for course operations & content management, and
  • "360 degree feedback" for the attainment of course outcomes.

Since the beginning, the department has produced excellent IT engineers who are serving in different reputed organizations and pursuing higher studies at Institutes of excellence. The strength of the department has been in its diverse areas of research in which it has a remarkable contribution.
